St Lucia, ´The Helen Of The West Indies´, became an independent country of the British Commonwealth in 1979. One of the ´Lesser Antilles´ island chain, St Lucia is located about 1,500 miles SE of Miami, FL in the SE Caribbean Sea, about 26 miles N of St Vincent and 100 miles NW of Barbados.

Getting To St Lucia
St Lucia´s Hewanorra International Airport (in the South of the island) receives flights from New York (4hrs), Philadelphia (4hrs) and Miami (3hrs) in the USA, Toronto, Canada (5hrs), and European locations like London (8hrs). Inter-island regional flights also operate through Hewanorra, but most use George Charles Airport at Castries (about 1 hour from Hewanorra in the NW part of the island).

St Lucia´s weather is tropical, with consistant strong sunshine and temperature ranging from about 76F at night to about 86F during the day. The balmy Trade Winds blow steadily from the east, keeping you comfortable all day. Due to the relatively high mountains, rainfall occurs year round in short bursts, but is more likely to occur on the eastern side of the island and from July to November. |
