Grenada Food

Grenada is renowned for its´ fantastic seafood, but it´s national dishes include ´calaloo soup´ and ´oildown´ (a meat & vegetable stew steamed in coconut milk), as well as nutmeg icecream (this is the ´isle of spice´). The high-end restaurant list for Your luxury vacation on Grenada should include (in alphabetical order) ´Bananas´ (French food), ´Coconut Beach Restaurant´ (Creole), and ´Rhodes´ (excellent International cuisine).

Inside Advice - Grenadas´ fine restaurants will undoubtedly delight your palate. But you´ll also find superb dining and excellent value at establishments such as ´Deyna´s Tasty Food´ (Caribbean) and ´The Red Crab´ (International).

Grenada Accommodation

Grenada offers a varied range of accomodations from luxury hotels & resorts, to intimate inns and inexpensive vacation apartments. Luxury hotels / resorts include: Bel Air Plantation, Calabash, La Source, Laluna, and Spice Island Beach Resort.

Inside Advice - Hurricane Ivan destroyed or severely damaged most hotels and resorts late in 2004. Once you have identified a place to stay you must find out if it is fully operational. If you are seeking more tranquility and privacy than the hotels and resorts can provide a luxury vacation home may be a better choice for you. In general, luxury villa rental also offers you more space in your own ´home away from home´, as well as far superior value compared to the hotels and resorts.

Grenadas´ Beaches & Waters

Grenada is particularly renowned for its excellent beaches, and all beachfront on the island is mandated as publicly accessible. There are 45 recognized beaches, including in the South:

  • Grand Anse Beach - 2 miles of white sand in a sheltered bay on the leeward side of the island. Well developed with hotels, dive shops, etc., but considered one of the Caribbeans loveliest beaches.
  • Morne Rouge Beach - Just south of Grand Anse Beach, but smaller, less developed, and with warmer water due to it´s shallow depth. An ideal beach for children.
  • La Sagesse Beach & Nature Resort - Silver sands and shallow water also excellent for families.

In the North you´ll find: Bathway Beach, Levera Beach, and Sauters Beach. These are all beautiful beaches with excellent views, and being on the Atlantic side of the island they have different character to the southern beaches and are less sheltered.

Grenadas´ warm clear waters and breezy trade winds make it a watersports paradise. You can fish, swim, snorkel, paddleboat, kayak, sail, windsurf, waterski, or even parasail from the beach.

Alternately, take one of the many dive boats to scuba-dive on pristine reefs and wrecks, or charter a fishing boat to experience the incredible sportfishing.

    Ashore On Grenada

St George´s, the capital of Grenada, is a well sheltered harbour town that has survived several major hurricanes in it´s long history. Other places to visit include the Grenada National Museum, as well as historic Fort George, and Fort Frederick. Take a ride and drive by nutmeg, banana, and cocoa plantations to visit the fish market, produce market and nutmeg factory at Grenville.

    Concord Falls, Grenada

The mountainous rainforest interior of Grenada is a natural tropical paradise feeding Annandale Falls, Concord Falls, Marquis Falls, Royal Mt Carmel Falls, & Victoria Falls. Grand Etang National Park is a great place to hike and observe exotic tropical flora and fauna.
